Presentation

On this site we try to bring together the karyotypes of Brazilian small mammals (Rodents and Marsupials) available in the literature. Our goal is to help researchers from different areas of knowledge to find the karyotypes data either to compare results, identification of species by species-specific karyotypes or evolutionary interpretations.

Are gathered here the karyotypes records that are available among hundreds of articles, abstracts and monographs. We seek to bring together the information of various types of work including taxonomic, genetic nature and of specific geographic locations.

The database currently contains 182 records, but we see this as an initial step and that tends to grow in the long term as the site is updated. For many species that show karyotype variation (2n = diploid number and NA = autosomal number) we cannot provide the full range of variation and we hope from now on to work in this approach.

Users can generate queries in this database making selections within five taxonomic levels (order, family, subfamily, genus or species). Once you have defined your query, the link will load a file in PDF format, in this will be the karyotype image on conventional staining and when available in bands and FISH technics, in addition, there is a link that allows you to perform the download of the original article describing the karyotype.

Keyword: karyotype diversity, Small Mammal's Karyotype Database, cytogenetic, 2n.
