Children's COP30 Project – Overview (english)
The "Children’s COP30" project promotes environmental awareness and education among elementary school students by exploring the relationship between human health and climate change. It empowers children to adopt sustainable practices and become multipliers of knowledge in their schools and communities. Inspired by the themes of the upcoming COP30, to be held in Belém, Brazil in 2025, the project encourages student leadership, fostering investigation, communication, and critical thinking on climate issues and environmental preservation.
General Objectives
Promote awareness of climate change and its effects on health and the environment. Encourage critical thinking and student engagement through active participation. Connect scientific knowledge with local socio-environmental challenges. Stimulate leadership and global citizenship among students.
Specific Objectives
Educational Objective
Teach children how climate change affects the human body through issues like pollution, extreme heat, poor water management, and nutrition.
Scientific Objective
Demonstrate the connection between human body systems and environmental conditions using practical activities in the anatomy lab.
Awareness Objective
Develop a sense of environmental responsibility and care for the planet.
Multiplication Objective
Empower students to spread sustainable practices in their schools and communities.
Behavioral Objective
Encourage small habit changes in families, such as water conservation, mindful consumption, and waste reduction.
Social Objective
Strengthen the relationship between school, families, and local communities around the common goal of environmental protection.
Regional Context and Approach
Located in the north of Espírito Santo state, Ouro Negro School is part of a community facing significant environmental, infrastructural, and socioeconomic challenges. These include limited access to sanitation, high infant mortality rates, and restricted access to technology and educational resources. The surrounding ecosystems, including Atlantic Forest remnants, mangroves, and coastal vegetation, are under constant threat. Through immersive and interdisciplinary strategies, the project brings students closer to these issues using interactive technologies and hands-on activities. It integrates science, culture, and community knowledge to develop awareness and solutions rooted in local reality.
Methodology and Tools
